Alcohol Abuse and Troubled Teens

Alcohol Abuse and troubled teens is increasing. Alcohol gives teenagers the power to express themselves without inhibitions.
It allows them to self-medicate to numb the pain of a turbulent world around them. Alcohol use in teenagers can get out of control and lead to death.

Reasons for Abuse and Troubled Teens

The main reason why troubled teens turn to alcohol is to lower inhibitions, especially for troubled teens. It allows teenagers to engage in deviant behavior without feeling guilt or fear that they will get caught. Drinking alcohol gives teens the perception that they are "cool" and can fit into peer groups easily. It allows the teenager to be more outgoing and do things that they normally would not do.

Alcohol abuse and troubled teens can also be found in situations where the teenager lives in a turbulent home life.

Teenage Binge Drinking

At the moment I am watching a documentary on Teenage Binge Drinking in the UK, they are saying that the UK is the Binge Drinking capitol of Europe. It looks really bad, the teens in the documentary are insane, or are they just teens???

I have worked in Bars in both New Zealand and Australia, and have been around drunks of all ages, and as sad as it is to witness someone incapacitated by alcohol, I have always been concerned about the rising number of young people out on the streets, with their fake Ids trying to get past the night club door staff. Teenage Binge Drinking is clearly not just a UK problem.

* Do their parents know what they are doing; do they know where they are?

* What will my own children act like... soon?

* What can I do if anything?

* Is it just a part of growing up?

* It may be a part of growing up but there are kids killing themselves with alcohol

So what can I do?

I found a great site with some very useful information about effects of alcohol and more importantly talking to your children about alcohol that is appropriate to their age.

OMG! - Not just another Father and Daughter article!!

Having a strong bond between a father and daughter is near and dear to my hear, especially being that I have a 5 month old little girl and I want us to make sure we have the best relationship from a male to female point of view. When i read this article i thought this is everything that i have been thinking and more. It really emphasises the importance of my role to her and makes me feel very priviledged and special, and somewhat scared of making sure I don’t stuff up

You can make your own conclusion but from what I read its scary stuff and as a father we have the most influence on our daughters behaviour from a young age.
