Wow, I'm stunned. Great post. This is a carbon copy of what I went through with my son for five years when he lived full time with his mother in Phoenix (10 years ago).

It brings back memories of releasing him at gate B2 to the flight attendant at Burbank airport after spending the entire summers and holidays with me. I'd watch him be led up the stairs to the plane and he'd give me one more smile and wave goodbye before disappearing into the fuselage with the other people. That was the last I'd see of him before watching the plane take off and praying to god that everything went safely with the flight.

I shed quite a few tears during those years with this scene repeating itself over and over again...

I guess I wasn't alone in this experience after all!
