When I met my girlfriend, I thought she was merely thin. I was thin, too, so it didn't occur to me that she got that way without also downing large pizzas be herself the way I could. When I finally saw her body, sans clothes, I was blown away: She was not merely thin. At 5'9", she weighed a mere 95#.
That was my welcome into her world of anorexia... and her father. Anybody who saw her and discovered him without seeing the connection was trying too hard.
Probably the reason you didn't read about the mother-daughter relationship was because the mother's relationship is often merely the support of a dictatorial, unfeeling father... at best, a diplomat. At worse, an enabler.
Before shooting from the hip, might I suggest doing your own research? Maybe talk to those women in your life that have anorexia and find out for yourself what the reality for them is in the relationships with their fathers. My own experience with more and more of the anorexics I have met is that the relationship with the father really is a factor.
