Dad has Homework

Posted with permission from A Dad's Notes

It’s a new year and we’ve decisively entered a new phase in the twins’ childhood. Both Libby and Henry have started their five day a week morning preschool. Henry, to quote his teacher, had a “rocky start.” He was crying when we dropped him off and he was crying when I picked him up. Libby was all smiles and hilarity. She’s taken to this experience just as we thought she would at Tot Time in September.

The teachers are thorough and send each child home with a written report. Henry also has custody of Frank E. Frog, who will be spending the night with us. Frankie’s an inquisitive sort and requires a detailed summary of his time with Henry. Maybe Frank is a children’s aid mole who won’t be impressed by our vegetable intake or toothbrushing technique. Anyway, a composition must be submitted and, since Henry can neither read nor write, yours truly will be doing the honors. Frank E.’s first experience was to be yanked away by Maggie who screamed blue murder when Henry tried to recover the amphibian interloper. My version will be sunny and sanitized.
