Today's guest is Dr. Bruce Linton, Founder of the Fathers Forum. I decided to focus my training as a Family Therapist, researcher and educator on men and fatherhood. And now the Fathers Forum offers Groups for Fathers (with preschool-age kids), 'Becoming a Father' classes, Walks for Dads and Children, as well as the individual and couple counseling I offer privately as a licensed Marriage and Family Counselor. The Fathers Forum is my experiment in trying to help fathers connect with each other and reflect on what it means to become a parent. At the Fathers Forum my specific focus is on expectant and new fathers; I feel committed to those early years of parenting in which so much is changing and forming in our lives as men. From the pregnancy on I realized that there were very few services both educationally or socially for me to meet with other men and hear about their experiences as fathers. In 1983 with a few other new fathers I started a men's group for new dads. From that experience I became aware of how essential having a dialogue between men about fatherhood is to understanding and valuing are roles as parents.
