You have to nurture your children's passions or help them try a lot of things to discover what inspires them. I got in trouble all the time when I was younger and really turned around when my mom stopped grounding me for weeks and months on end - she decided instead to make me volunteer for a nonprofit. I got to choose, so I worked a few hours a week at a food bank and an animal shelter. Today Im a nonprofit executive at a young age and doing very well. Often teenagers are bored and unengaged with school and their parents, and they don't have control over much in their lives so you have to direct their energies towards something positive. Civic participation, art/music and volunteerism can be a great way to do that. Good luck!
