Over the New Years break I have meet up with a few fathers that have reminded me of why I am involved with DIYFather.

I had a great conversation with a Father who will be a Stay at Home for 6 months of the year, an older father who has a young child and his priorities are with his family he is rough around the edges a mans-man however he is passionate about his life as a father.
I would like to acknowledge this father and all fathers like him for setting themselves up to be able to take the time off for their families.

Another father I spoke to, like myself does not have his children and he finds it hard and unfulfilled as a father. Christmas is a tough time for Fathers that don’t have their children it can be a deeply lonely time for some fathers, as it was for this father.
“Your not alone and don’t loose faith, turn your focus on the positive things in your life, your beautiful child and your love for them” living in pain and regret will make no difference to the possibility of there being something better for you in the coming year. Look for things you can do for your child, rather than focusing on the things that you can’t do or don’t have.

A young friend of mine brought his own baby into the world! What a great story that will make on DIYFather, he and his partner is an advocate of Home Births and it just so happened that when the moment came he was called to ‘step up’ to the ultimate task.
Well done to any father that brings their child into the world, love to hear from you all.

And finally, a father who moved back from the UK to New Zealand for the sole purpose to spend more time with his family, leaving behind great earnings and the entertainment that only London can offer. However when in London he didn’t see his children, he was up before they got up and home after his children was in bed. This is all too common for many working fathers. The weekends was all there was for family time. A shift in priorities with a new baby boy brought him and his family to New Zealand. Again I acknowledge these fathers that can do this and will shift their lives for their families; you are all an inspiration to fathers.

The world needs more role models, less bad news of famlies falling apart and news of abuse, and more news on the families that are successful and are great role models for all families.

DIYFather is the vehicle to use for Fathers that can share their successful family life, to show the world that fathers can be great fathers when the news shows only the bad news, and to lead the way for all fathers.

A New Year toast to a successful year for all fathers

‘Cheers’

- Eric
