Our little man is right into his baking ... and I think it's just a superb activity to do with kids. They love looking at you making the dough (or getting their hands stuck in if you let them) from all the raw ingredients. It's great to see the process of eggs, flour, milk and butter turn into dough. If you make cookies that need cutting (like in our case) it's another great opportunity for them to get involved. Give them the choice of different cookie cutters or designs. Finally - letting them watch how the cookies bake, and then tasting the end result is very exciting (well at least in our case it was). So try it out - even if your kids are not into it you might still score some "brownie" points with the missus or you eat all the cookies to yourself! Either way - a good result. Here's a failsafe basic recipe for tea biscuit type cookies: * 450gr self-raising flour Mix all ingredients together in a bowl and kneed until you've got a smooth dough. Put the dough in the fridge for an hour and then roll it (with a rolling pin) on a smooth surface (about 0.5cm thick). Now use the cookie cutters to get individual cookies and place on a baking tray. You can add all sorts of funny decorations on top at this stage or just leave plain. When you're all done - put them in the oven for 10 to 12 mins at 180 deg C. Done. Enjoy! -Stef |

My oldest son is 11 and has
My oldest son is 11 and has been "cooking & baking" since he could crawl. His enthusiasm in the kitchen has now spilled over to the internet and he wanted to start his own website. I initially helped to put a rough framework together, but now he is getting quite adept at using html and php and ftp's himself, so I don't have to be so hands on anymore. I never thought that his love for baking would spill over to aquiring a new technical skill too!

My son always pulls out stuff when my wife starts baking - he just wants to be involved.
