Keeping a newborn excited

Pyper is just over 9 weeks old, so she's at the goo goo gaa gaa stage, she is alert and wanting a little attention. For me who is about as creative as a dead cat entertaining her can be difficult. So unfortunately I had to watch my wife and steal some ideas from her. When we first became pregnant Renee went around and brought all this "stuff" for the baby which at the time I thought what a waste of .... money but now I've finally changed my thoughts on this.

Pyper's routine means she sleeps for around 2 1/2 hours and is up for around the same, so by the time you get her up, feed her and change her nappy you've got – umm – well basically 1 1/2 hours left, so what shall we do now! I firstly always like to make sure she is going to be comfortable and is feeling ok and then after that I put her in her baby bounce which I also have a half round clip able toy "thingee" which allows her to sit in the baby bounce as illustrated and look at the toys and then play with them.

We can take it anywhere with us and then put her in it – we play with her and then she also entertains herself. We also have a mate which has more clip able toy "thingee's" on it she lays on her back and then looks up at it, it means we can get down with her and move the toys for her and for her to also reach them.

She also has a collection of Lamaze learning toys which are different shapes and colours and textures on the toy and they allow her to rub her hands over them and learn about different types of surfaces etc.

Once we have finished with the baby bounce or mat we then read her a book or we cuddle and talk to her, we are also trying to develop her at the same time, by this stage its getting close to going back to bed.

I totally recommend the baby bounce and also Lamaze toys.
