My name is Scott Lancaster and with the other 2 directors Stefan Korn, and Eric Mooij we are all interested in the information and education of old, new and one day fathers, and that my needs as the father of a new born are completely different to those "celebrity fathers whose kid maybe hooked on P" for example! When we first found out my wife Renee was pregnant we were both overwhelmed with lots of people giving us advice - everyone we spoke to or rather didn't speak to gave us the "readers digest condensed version" of how to prepare, care and be there for a baby! Let's just take you into the background of who we are - Renee is a hairdresser who owns and runs her own hair salon, and she also has a separate beauty therapy business, which last time we looked are small businesses consuming copious amounts of our limited resource - "time"! I own a restaurant and help run her beauty salon! At the time, the idea of having a child was like "how is this small thing going to fit into our lifestyle"? We can't even find time for ourselves or each other what the hell is going to happen to a small baby? We own a dog and cat – aren't they enough? Sometimes it gets to 10pm and we are still asking ourselves - did we remember to feed them tonight - OMG we forgot to feed them last night!!! :-( Hmm you get my drift!!! Anyway off on a tangent - with most of Renee's clients giving us "useful pieces" of what I would describe as a jigsaw then you would think we would have had the whole puzzle by now - WRONG! It was just the tip of the ice berg - really it just triggered an influx of questions like - "Are you going to breast feed"? "What about child care"? "Make sure you read this book" ... "Make sure you look at this website" ... "My friend has just had a baby and I think you should ..." So my thoughts were what if there was a website that was dedicated to fathers where fathers could ask about information that they wanted to know! A forum where they can ask questions and get relevant answers and experiences from other dads! So out of that came the idea for DIY Father, and the name came from the ability that we believe fathers are Do It Yourself type people at heart. So please have a look at the posts, comments and discussions. If you agree with something then great, comment on it and if you don't then we definitely want to hear from you! We want to hear any of your comments and especially if there are any ideas for improving the site, or if you want to share it with other fathers then please click on the "tell a friend" link.
