DIYFather in the news: Dads4Dads programme awarded funding by Sovereign Sunshine

Great news for our joint parenting eduction programme with Plunket which was specifically put together to get first time dads together to "talk shop" about parenting from a male perspective. We got awarded a grant by Sovereign Sunshine to help with the nationwide expansion of the programme. YAY!

The following story was covered by several publications yesterday. The text below featured in the NZ Herald yesterday:

A training and support group for new fathers has been given a $15,000 hand-out from charity fund-raiser Sovereign Sunshine.

DIYFather invited onto TVNZ's Dad Panel

The other day we got asked to join TVNZ's dad panel to talk about "becoming a dad" - so I went on the show today to represent DIYFather.com. Dad Panel on TV NZ's Good Morning Show (it's about 2h 30min in, so just FF if you want to go straight to the dad's panel).

Nothing radical happened but it was great to have a relaxed chat about different experiences. Lots of dads sent in emails to the show as well which was great to see - there's obviously interest in fatherhood. YAY!

Call Me Dad launch party

A huge thanks to everyone who turned up for our official book launch of "Call Me Dad!" yesterday at Dymocks. It was great to see so many of our friends, colleagues and business partners with their families and kids turn up to celebrate with us.

DIYFather and Plunket run Dads4Dads pilot course

DIYFather directors Scott Lancaster and Stefan Korn have successfully completed the first Dads4Dads course delivered as part of Plunket's Parenting Education Programme. Eleven fathers enrolled for the first course which was held at the Khandallah Plunket Rooms in Wellington.

The course was designed for fathers of children under one-year-old and covered key issues relating to parenting in general and specifically fatherhood. Scott and Stefan were keen to help fathers realise the importance of their role in helping their baby develop and emphasise that babies know their fathers right from the moment of birth.

Helping brave children - FUNRAZOR 2008

For the last few years Child Cancer Foundation have organised a "funrazor - shave your lid for a brave kid" event to raise money to fund programs for kids and their families on the childhood cancer journey. So this year it was time to get some DIYFather involvement in the event. Here's what happened ...

My son didn't recognise me when I got home but it's all been worth while :-) A BIG THANK YOU to everyone who sponsored me!!!
