For more than 18 months Renee had been waiting for Pypers hair to grow so that she could give it her first haircut , Pyper has my fine hair – so its taken a lot longer than expected for her to grow it. 2 weeks ago Renee finally said that ok im going to give her the first trim – OMG this should have been a ceremony with some digntries invited at least, but there wasnt it was just her grandmother, her mother and I. She sat perfectly and didnt even flinch, she was very well behaved and believe you me I have seen and heard some real little screamers. In a flash it was over – a few snips here and there and it was done. Hmm luckily we didnt have speaches ready or anything....

Confession from a Dad who Stuffed up at the BarbersMaybe its delayed shock, or maybe it’s the shock of wife’s reaction that is catching up with me what have I done. I was trusted in carrying out simple job all I had to do was take my 2 year old off to the Barber to have a haircut or trim. We arrived at the Barber shop our 2 year old was so keen to go see Frank the barber, and was enjoying the car magazines prior to his haircut. Before we knew it William was sitting in the big seat with a Wiggles frock wrapped around him holding a big nervous smile. Frank turned and asks "what will it be, short like dads" the words from mouth say "yes a bit of trim would be great". Well before I knew it, short was interpreted as short like Dad (dad has no hair!) and the scissors had taken to the back as quick you could say crikey that's short!

New Look
"Daddy, you got a haircut," she said, when she first saw me. "I like it." So much for her being devastated. The next morning, she saw me again and said, "You still have your haircut, Daddy." A little later she said, "I like your haircut, I didn't like your curls."

Pypers mother (Renee) is a hairdresser with the hair salon at the bottom level of house, and Pyper is a frequent user of the dust pan and brush using it to pick up hair.
People laugh when they see me counting my children in public. It may even go so far as to perpetuate some of the negative stereotypes many have of men as bungling and inept fathers. Guys seemingly overwhelmed at the prospect of having to actually spend time with their children. I don't really care what they think. One of my assigned daily jobs is loss prevention. I'm charged the lives of five wonderful children and my goal each day is to see to it that five wonderful children are safely tucked into their beds at night.
I postponed getting a haircut for several months. Among my reasons was not wanting to lose the curls that Annalee had a habit of playing with, especially when tired. I admit, too, that strangers telling us all the time that they could see where Annalee got her curls from was a bond between us, a thing of which I was proud. Eventually, though, I bit the bullet. The long locks had become a bother, and I wanted my old short-haired self to re-emerge, if hopefully wiser.
